词源

原始文献没有明确给出白娑罗双属学名Anthoshorea的词源；由于命名人建立本属的依据之一，在于其花药“形态奇特”，以此区别于坡垒属和娑罗双属，因此可认为该名来自植物学拉丁语词anthera（花药）和娑罗双属学名Shorea.
本属植物新伐的心材为白色至黄色，木材界按照马来西亚传统分别归入“白娑罗双类”和“黄娑罗双类”，“白娑罗双属”一名由此而来。为了避免与白桫椤属（Sphaeropteris）混淆，“双”字不省略。
