据原始文献，离管豆属的学名Tournaya用于纪念法国植物学家罗朗·图尔奈（Roland L. J. A. Tournay, 1925－1972）。他是命名人安德烈·施密茨的好友，并于1967－1972年间担任《比利时国家植物园学报》（Bulletin du Jardin Botanique National de Belgique）编辑，此名即于1973年在该刊物上发表。
本属中文名“离管豆属”指本属与长管豆属近缘，被丝托长管状，但与子房离生。这一名称由多识团队成员刘夙拟定。
